My thoughts are on the recent passing of my sister-in-law. She departed this life on
\nSeptember 3, 2014. Her name is Audrey. My husband and I made plans to visit Audrey and other relatives.
\nWe were to leave our hometown on Thursday August 28, 2014. We were expecting to arrive back home on Thursday, September 4, 2014.
\nMy husband received a call from the hospital. He spoke with a surgeon on Monday, August 25, 2014.
\nHe was told that his sister Audrey needed immediate surgery or she would die.
\nHe was told that she had two blood clots on each side of her head.
\nMy husband needed time to digest this sudden information. He consulted other family members.
\nIt was finally in agreement by family members that she would have the surgery.
\nAudrey was born with down syndrome. She was 59 years old. She had developed dementia
\nwithin the the last year or so.
\nThe last time she came to visit us, we could see signs of dementia and that she was slowing down.
\nWe saw her last August 2013, and for the last time when she visited us in mid September 2013.
\nWe visited Audrey everyday while she was in the hospital. She departed on Wednesday September 3, 2014.
\nWe were scheduled to leave on Thursday September 4, 2014.
\nOn September 4, 2014 we made Audrey’s funeral arrangements.
\nWe arrived about a week or so later for Audrey’s wake\/viewing on Sunday, September 14, 2014.
\nHer funeral and burial was on Monday, September 15, 2014.
\nI had no idea of the emotions I had with held,no idea of my grief and pain.
\nIt finally all came out when my husband and I were asked to come forward.
\nWe were asked to cover Audrey. When her casket was descending my emotions got the best of me.
\nI felt a sudden shaking in my knees, I felt myself becoming weak and shaken.
\nIt was at that very moment when I saw Audrey being lowered in the casket that I knew it was good-bye.
