June lay on the living room floor in her flannel flowered nightgown with the ruffles and buttons, eating a candy cane. Peppermint – the best kind. The colored tree lights twinkled even though the sun shone brightly through the caddy corner window. June didn’t mind that she was sick. Christmas Season was just happy and if you could still eat candy canes, who cared if you were sick? She sat up to lift the baby Jesus from his manger. Her friend Stephanie had said you weren’t supposed to put him in the manger until Christmas but June and her family always did.
